The UN Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB) concluded its mandate on 18 November and its operations will draw to a close on 31 December 2015.
17 Nov 2015 - From 9 to 11 November, H.E. Mr. Jürg Lauber undertook his first visit to Burundi in his capacity as Chair of the Burundi Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC). The objective of his visit was to establish contacts with the Government of Burundi and other key stakeholders, to gain a better understanding of the current political crisis and to learn about the Government’s plans to address the situation.
08 Nov 2015 - The Secretary-General is alarmed by the ongoing escalation of violence in Burundi. He expresses grave concern that in recent weeks, the discovery of the bodies of civilian victims, many apparently summarily executed, has become a regular occurrence in several neighborhoods of Bujumbura. Just today, the son of prominent Burundian human rights defender Pierre-Claver Mbonimpa was killed following his arrest by police in Bujumbura.
01 Sep 2015 - 28 August 2015 – Fifteen years after the signing of a landmark Burundi peace accord, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today called on all the country’s political leaders, including those in exile, to find common cause and commit to build on the stability that was ushered in by the Arusha Agreement.
02 Jul 2015 - The United Nations Electoral Observation Mission (MENUB), pursuant to Security Council Resolution 2137 of 2014 to observe the Burundian electoral process before, during and after the elections, began its observation activities on 1 January 2015. Based on its findings to date, MENUB presents the following preliminary conclusions:

11 Jun 2015 - The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, Said Djinnit, and members of the facilitation team that joined and supported the dialogue between the Burundian parties, met today in Bujumbura with members of the diplomatic corps.
25 May 2015 - 22 May 2015 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has voiced encouragement at the ongoing political dialogue in Burundi following weeks of tensions and a reportedly failed coup d'état in the country's capital of Bujumbura, according to a United Nations spokesperson.
25 May 2015 - The Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Great Lakes Region, the EAC-COMESA Eminent Persons, the High Level Delegation of the AU and the Executive Secretary of the ICGLR are appalled by the escalation of violence in Burundi that has led to many deaths, injuries and thousands of refugees.
25 May 2015 - The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the killing of Mr. Zedi Feruzi, leader of the opposition Union pour la paix et le développement (UPD) Zigamibanga party in Burundi, and his bodyguard, on 23 May 2015 in Bujumbura. The members of the Security Council also condemned the grenade attack in Bujumbura’s central market on 22 May 2015 that left two dead and many others injured.
02 Jan 2015 - The United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB) today officially starts its operations in the country. The UN Security Council set the Mission’s creation in motion in February 2014, following the Government's request for a UN-backed electoral observer mission before, during and after Burundi's 2015 elections.
