Cassam Uteem of Mauritius was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as his Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB) on 10 November 2014.

The United Nations Electoral Observation Mission in Burundi (MENUB) officially starts its operations in the country.

Burundian election stakeholders signed a Charter of Non-Violence

Under the auspices of the UN Special Envoy and Head of MENUB, Cassam Uteem, Burundian election stakeholders including the Government, the Electoral commission (CENI), representatives of political parties, youth organizations and civil society signed a Charter of Non-Violence, committing to peace before, during, and after the elections.

MENUB issues a Preliminary statement focused on its observation activities from 1 January 2015, which marks the beginning of its operations to the legislative and communal elections on 29 June.
